Ah, but then she'd have to stop playing The Game. I don't think that would interest her, honestly.

Aatom, that's one of the reasons I'd like to see her safely ensconced on the Supreme Court. To be all Oprah for a second, maybe -- freed from her own ambition -- she'd be satisfied to just be a great jurist.

Yes. I think "bide her time" is the right answer. She's craven, ambitious, and smart. If Obama is indeed the political catalyst for change that the Dems (and me, in all honesty) hopes he is, then she will simply make herself look more and more irrelevant and foolish by attempting to further her career at this moment. The Clinton machine has been dealt a pretty serious blow by this young upstart, but they are savvy enough to know that politics is an attention-deficit-based enterprise that will work in their favor if Obama doesn't pan out. She's in a very good place logistically to wait for another big moment, and she clearly has no hope of making it happen right now. She will wait (and hope?) for the Obama phenomenon to peter out or prove itself substantively bankrupt, then she will strike again. We can only hope she is wrong.
