I wrote down in my notebook that he mentioned the Washington Times -- it's the only way his reference to Rev. Moon would make any sense as a pun. But I'll send Gladwell an email and ask him.

UPDATE 6/26: The audio download linked at the end of the post settles this tiny tempest. Didja' catch that, Ed?

UPDATE 6/30: Malcolm Gladwell responded that he never worked at the Washington Times, rather it was the Washington Post. Kinsley misspoke and I've removed the reference to his statement.

No, you weren't reporting what Kinsley said. Your original reportage had him "alluding" to something. You did use the word, didn't you? You do know what it means? Precisely what did he say, and did he actually mention the Washington Times?

Ed,

I was reporting what Kinsley said. He's the one who called Gladwell the Reverend Moon of businessmen and mentioned the Washington Times. I don't know Gladwell's full work history (I notice that his stint at The American Spectator -- cited in this [NYTimes article] -- is rarely reported in online bios, including the one on his own website), so I don't know whether Kinsley made a mistake -- or just knows more than either of us.

You show some pretty sloppy research when you say Gladwell worked for the Washington Times. Shouldn't rely on inaccurate wikis for data, dude, as he never worked there, despite what some dumb wiki contributor says.

[...] Went last night to a talk at the New York Public Library celebrating Slate’s 10th Birthday, featuring Michael Kinsley, Malcolm Gladwell, Arianna Huffington, Jacob Weisberg, and Norm Pearlstine. Given the topic, “online media and the future of journalism,” it was one of those blogged-to-death deals. I’m slow to the punch, my friend Trebor Scholz wrote about it, as did David Cohn, David Hirschman, Dylan Stableford, a rat, probably a dozen others, and some pictures from Will. You can listen to the whole thing as an mp3 if you so desire. I really don’t have much to add. But if you think that means I’m not posting, you are new to blogging. As Weisberg noted, blogs are really good at talking about something even when there is nothing new to say. [...]
